My First Month as an Au pair
__________________________________________________________________
Hi guys, 😊
My name is Natasha and I am currently an Au Pair with Au Pair in America.
So I have now been living with my family in New Jersey for a whole month! It's crazy to think how fast time has flown by and yet I honestly feel like I’ve already been here for so long.
I am working with two four-year-old boys named Max and Saul (and yes, they are twins) 😃
It was defiantly a crazy time for me to arrive as I met with the family on the 16th of December, just One week before Christmas!
from the moment I arrived there was plenty to do … which made settling in to be quite the challenge but in a way it allowed me to become quite useful very quickly which I defiantly think helped the process in the long run, as I was always on the go.
there have defiantly been some challenges along the way like learning everything you need to know in such a short amount of time and adapting to a new time zone was certainly quite the challenge but with time, most of these things got a lot easier.
My biggest challenge this month:
Flooding the basement :0 !!! 😵
... yes you read that right, with n the first month of being a new au pair i managed to destroy everything .. haha okay, maybe not everything .. but at the time it certainly felt that way !!
So about three weeks into living with my new family, Max (4 years old) and i were the doing the washing, we took one of the baskets down to the laundry room which is connected onto the basement and put the washing on. Little did I know one of the sponges had been knocked into the sink next to the washing machine.
I came downstairs a little while later and I heard a strange noise coming from the laundry room, I opened up the door to see water gushing everywhere!!!!!
The sponge had landed on top of the drain in the sink and when the washing machine had emptied the water out of the machine and into the sink, the sink filled up as it couldn’t drain fast enough
... and as you can guess once the sink was full it poured over onto the floor, flooding the laundry room, the boiler room and some of the carpet in my room

We had to cut a whole in the wall to allow water to drain! It was defiantly an experience I will never forget
My host family were great throughout the whole day, very calm and reassuring,
we all worked together to sort out the problem, ... all though I am now referred to as Noah around here seeming I did bring the flood to their house (oops)

My Favourite memory this month:
New York city!! 😍
New York city!! 😍
My favorite memory from my first month in America would defiantly have to be going to see the tree in New York city with my host family. We took the train from new jersey into New York. It was about a 40-minute train ride and the kids were so excited! they love trains and they love being on them and looking at everything fly by so fast through the window.
We adventured around the city for a while and I tried my very first American hotdog !! after seeing a few of the sites and time square we headed to see the tree.
There were so many people in the one place it was so crazy, the roads were blocked off and police presence was high.!!! (wich was kind of scary) the atmosphere in new york was amazing and the city is so bright at night. I can't wait to go back ! :)
To sum up my first month in America I thought I would break down some of my favorite and not so favorite things.
My 5 Favorite things this month!!!
· Making new friends
· Wearing PJ’s all the time (hahaha)
· Spending time getting to know the family
· Seeing the kids starting to get excited to see you
· New York City
I honestly have had such an amazing first month here in America with my new family and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world, I’m super excited to see how the rest of this year unfolds and to be able to share my experience with you.
